2007 Heian Kambun Workshop: The Year 985

Professor Eiichi Ishigami, University of Tokyo
Professor Joan Piggott, University of Southern California

The 2007 workshop focused on materials from the Heian Regency era (late 9th to later 11th centuries). Participants practiced reading, analysis, annotation, and translation of historical text from this era. The primary language of the workshop was Japanese, but translation into English was also emphasized. Sessions were held Monday through Friday from July 16 to August 10 in the USC East Asia Library, where participants could use the extensive Japan collections in their translation research.
