Clear skies. Because it was an auspicious day, I went to the Toba’in. First, I paid a visit to His Lordship the Regent. I withdrew, and went to His Lordship once again later. I returned to my private residence in the evening. Late in the evening, through a letter {carried by} a lady-in-waiting, I asked the Kitano mandokoro [Minamoto no Reishi] (1040-1114)

about the flute. She replied that I should take it. After that, there was nothing worth mentioning.

八日、乙亥、天晴、依吉日参鳥羽院、先参殿下、又退出之次参殿下、晩頭還里亭、臨晩頭以女房消息、申北政所於笛事、御返事云、被仰可取出之由、其後無指事

八日、乙亥 、天晴れ。吉日 に依り鳥羽院 に参る。先 殿下に参る。又退出してついで殿下に参る。晩頭 里亭 に還る。晩頭に臨み女房の消息 を以って、笛の事に於いて北政所 [源麗子 ]に申す。御返事 に云く。取出 づ可きの由 を仰 らる。其後指したる事無し。
