I will discuss the objectives of the East Asia in the World volume as well the contents of my chapter, "East Asia's First World War." The volume was developed through a series of conferences as a collaboration between political science/IR scholars and historians. I will talk about the process of development as well as the many times that we found ourselves asking totally different questions or working towards significantly different goals.
