2005 Kamakura Kambun Workshop

The Project for Premodern Japanese studies Kambun workshop of the Summer of 2005 . Participants spent four weeks doing directed readings and translations of Kamakura Period texts. Professor Motoo Endo of the University of Tokyo Historiographical Institute led the discussions alongside Professor Joan Piggott. Professor Endo also gave an open lecture on Medieval monastic society and temples.

The Project for Premodern Japanese Studies provided residency at university apartments adjacent to the USC campus for visiting scholars who could use the extensive East Asian library, which houses than 4000 volumes in the Japan collection. The USC History department, the East Asia Studies center, and USC’s conference services served as staff support to aid participants.
